Just coffee in the morning? Anyone who skips breakfast has a twofold increased risk of cancer. People who regularly eat a balanced breakfast tend to have more stable blood sugar levels throughout the day.

This effect could help reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes. But breakfast is also said to have a protective effect with regard to other diseases. A balanced meal that contains complex carbohydrates, protein and healthy fats will prevent cravings later in the day, according to researchers. The research team does not see the causes for this in the diet itself or in demographic factors, they say.
