Kiss photo in Times Square risks censorship, White House stops it. Signed by Alfred Eisenstaedt, the photo depicts an American sailor kissing a nurse in the heart of Times Square amid celebrations of Japan's surrender in August 1945.

Some employees had complained, the author of the proposal explained, proposing to remove the photo from the walls of the Ministry. The censorship was promptly intercepted and returned to the sender by the White House and the image remained in place. Reproduction reserved © Copyright ANSA.
