Lidl in Denmark will stop selling cigarettes and tobacco products by 2028. First tobacco-free branch opened on Thursday (11 May) in Hjørring, in the north of the country.

It is unlikely that Lidl-Denmark's decision will also have an impact on cigarette sales at the German discounter. The company did not want to give any information on the future direction of its tobacco range in the German supermarket chain. The range of supermarket and discount checkouts has recently been criticized in Germany.
