New law would prevent media takeovers by foreign actors. It would make it possible to block the control of RedBird IMI, a fund largely supported by Abu Dhabi.

The changes would also prevent the sale of newspapers and periodical news magazines involving the influence of foreign states. The legislation is currently being considered by the House of Lords. It is expected to be voted on by the end of the year and passed with a majority of votes. The bill will then be sent to the Government for further consideration.
