Many stoves will have to be shut down by the end of 2024: which stoves are exempt from this. Older wood stoves that exceed certain emission limits must then either be retrofitted or replaced.

The current regulation affects all wood-burning stoves and fireplaces that were put into operation between January 1, 1995 and March 21, 2010. Owners still have the option to retrofit their furnaces or decommission them until December 31, 2024. If retrofitting is not technically possible and a new wood stove is not an option, the old stove must be taken out of operation.
