On April 1, 1984, in Los Angeles, Marvin Gaye was shot, on the eve of his 45th birthday. His killer was none other than his own father, Marvin Sr, who stunned his family by drawing a weapon during yet another altercation with this prodigal son. The latter had then just scored a huge hit with Sexual Healin g, taken from his album Midnight Love, released a year and a half previously.
