From 2020 to today, its sales have quadrupled and more than a third of the comics published in the country belong to this genre. The exhibition pays tribute to influential mangakas (authors) and pioneers of the genre.
It delves into its origins, with more than 200 pieces and works of art that travel from this successful present to its origins. 'The art of manga' can be seen at the Official College of Architects of Madrid starting on April 4. The first to use the word manga as such was the engraver Katsushika Hokusai, creator of the iconic Great Wave off Kanagawa.
