Mexican authorities have raised to level 3 (out of 4) the alert for the activities of the Popocatépetl volcano. This is a yellow alert, which signals medium-high activity and warns of possible evacuation needs.

Spectacular images of material leaking from the crater are observed, with imposing columns of smoke with lava. Popocatepetl returned to activity in 1994, and is constantly monitored, due to the risks to the population living in the surrounding areas. The volcano is located on the border between the two states of Morelos and Puebla.
