Midwife explains why babies don't need to wear socks. Babies' hands and feet are often colder than the rest of their body, which does not necessarily mean they are cold.

Temperature regulation is not yet stable in newborns, and the skin pores are not yet able to close completely when exposed to cold. The best way to determine whether the little one is too cold is for parents to hold a palm on the back of their child's neck. This can be used to tell whether the baby is too warm - the baby's earlobe also reveals something about its body temperature.
