Aedes albifasciatus, also known as the “flood mosquito,” spreads equine encephalitis. It had already appeared at the end of the year and returned after the two weeks of deluge.

As happened in December and has been varying in intensity since then, the increase in mosquito populations is a consequence of their reproductive cycles, combined with environmental conditions. Low temperatures are not a brake but they are a limitation for this species, says Sylvia Fischer, a Conicet researcher.
