More than 90 people died when an overcrowded makeshift ferry sank off the northern coast of Mozambique. The converted fishing vessel, carrying around 130 people, ran into trouble while trying to reach an island off the coast of Nampula province.

Rescuers have found five survivors and are looking for others, but sea conditions make the rescue operation difficult. Most of the passengers were trying to flee the mainland due to panic caused by misinformation about cholera, State Secretary Neto said.
