Iranian courts have sentenced a man to the death penalty for killing director Dariush Mehrjui and his wife in October. The couple's former gardener is considered the main accused.

Two of the defendants were sentenced to a total of 36 years in prison each and a fourth man to eight years. The verdicts could be appealed, according to Mizan Online, which said the verdicts were to be appealed and could be overturned on appeal. The main accused was sentenced according to the law of retaliation, used in Iran in murder cases.
