On the eve of the university strike, the Government increased a smaller but key item of funds. The Ministry of Human Capital, headed by Sandra Pettovello, confirmed a 70% increase in the operating expenses of the institutions.
The item represents 10% of university budgets, but there were alarms about the delay in the amounts. "Operating expenses" at national universities represent 10 percent of their budget, with the majority remaining in salaries. The announced increase is, strictly speaking, an update of the increases in public services, whether due to inflation or reduction in subsidies.
