One in 5 Italians eats gluten free but spends 73% more. The turnover reached 400 million euros with one Italian in 5 convinced of the goodness of the celiac diet.

The survey examines a basket of 10 food products sold in the main large-scale retail chains. In 3 years, gluten-free products have increased in price by an average of 10%, with peaks of +23.7% for ice cream, while rusks and beer have kept their price lists unchanged. But the heaviest differences are found when comparing the cost per kilo of gluten- free products with their traditional counterparts.
