The average sea surface temperature soared to 21.06°C in February, according to data from the European Observatory. A spectacular increase linked to global warming, but also to the El Niño meteorological phenomenon, now in decline.

This does not however bode well for a fall in the mercury in the months to come, as La Niña is expected to return in the next few months. The average temperature of surface waters reached an absolute record in February. The increase is linked to both global warming and the phenomenon of El Niño.
