Pink eggs in the garden are not a remnant of Easter, but a warning sign of the invasive apple snail. The apple snail, originally from South America, has already spread to North America, Asia and Spain.

The snails feed on all above-ground parts of the plants that they can reach; especially like where it is humid. Anyone who finds pink eggs in their own garden should report them to the responsible plant protection service. The EU has had an import ban on apple snails since 2023.
