The Petermännchen is one of the most dangerous poisonous animals in Europe. Around 40 people are affected by contact with the fish every year.

The poison is released at the moment when the sting is drilled into the skin of the victim. Symptoms: headache, nausea, breathing problems, collapse or cardiac arrhias. In the worst case, allergic reactions can also lead to cardiac arrest and death. The fish is considered a delicacy in France and is often caught by gulls.
