The two portraits of the Soolmans couple by Rembrandt stayed for five years at the Louvre. In February 2016, after an outcry from art lovers, this European solution was found.

The French institution acquired these full-length and ceremonial portraits of Maerten Soolman and Oopjen Coppit, jointly with its Dutch counterpart the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Precisely, the woman is ours and the man theirs but the contract also stipulates that a rotation takes place for a systematic presentation in pairs.
