Pritzker Architecture Prize for “Extraordinary Normality” by Riken Yamamoto. Japanese artist wins the award for a work critical of modernity and at the service of people.

In his first work, Yamamoto investigated the space in this house in the forest with four rooms in which life is done on the porch. The architect repaired the modern rigidity with semicircular terraces that expand the traditional machiya with cantilevered roofs. The house took advantage of the regulations - which allowed it to grow from 4. meters to 26 meters - to connect neighboring homes and businesses.
