Netflix recently suspended its rental service after 25 years. The streaming giant announced that its DVD.com operation would be dismantled starting in the fall.

DVD replaced VHS in 1996 and began its decline in 2008. In recent years, citizen platforms such as Free Blockbuster have flourished for the distribution and exchange of VHS, DVD and Blu-ray and there has also been a return to a certain nostalgia for the video stores in which so many viewers were nurtured. The last film to enter an envelope was True Grit by the Coen brothers.
