Hackers can access smart TVs - and even control devices from others. Several major security gaps have recently been discovered in some models, which can be circumvented with the latest updates.
Users of LG Smart TVs should therefore check whether their devices are up to date and, if necessary, carry out an update. Unlike computers or smartphones, updates on smart TVs are optional and are not always installed automatically. Users can put it off and still watch TV without restrictions. If automatic updates are not activated, they can also be downloaded manually by selecting “Software Update” under “Customer Support” in the settings. There you will find the item “Check for updates”; Depending on the operating system, the procedure may vary slightly. The model name can be found on a label on the back of the television and in its setting. The security experts at Bitdefender had already informed LG about the security gaps in 2023, and the company responded with new security updates. These have been available since March 22, 2024.
