Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo announce new Super Mario movie for 2026. The first animated film about the mustachioed plumber, released in 2023, ranked second at the global box office and collected more than $1.36 billion in revenue.
This feature film is to be directed by Wes Ball, author of the Maze Runner trilogy, co-produced by Avi Arad, who supervised several major films in the Spider-Man series. Nintendo has long been wary of Hollywood adaptations of its franchises, after the failure of a first Super Mario Bros. film.
