Stiftung Warentest tested 18 veggie schnitzels: four were heavily contaminated with harmful substances. Only seven products were classified as “good”.
Vantastic, Like Meat, Veganz and Viana products contained elevated levels of potentially carcinogenic 3-MCPD esters. If consumed regularly, these can cause long-term damage to the nerves. Caution is also advised when it comes to the calorie content. The main reason for this is the breading, which absorbs a lot of fat.
