The Italian government must ensure that it pays "without further delay" the sums owed to dozens of creditors by insolvent municipalities and public companies in difficulty, such as Anas. The request was made today by the committee of ministers of the Council of Europe which, in a statement, "notes with concern the lack of tangible progress in resolving" the problem.

Rome must provide concrete information on how it intends to proceed by 30 September, the statement said. The Council of European Ministers asked Rome to provide "concrete information" about its plans to pay the creditors.
