Vitamin D may increase the chance of survival in cancer patients. Daily intake in low doses between 400 and 4000 international units was decisive for the better chances of survival.

One in seven Germans has a pronounced vitamin D deficiency, or around 15 percent of adults are affected. Sunlight is the most important source of vitamin D, the human body covers up to 90 percent of its needs. The risk of developing cancer before the age of 50 is still comparatively low, which is why the positive effect is more likely to be expected for the older age group.
