The 27 EU countries approve the new sanctions on Russia. EU ambassadors have just reached an agreement in principle on the 13th package of sanctions in the context of Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

The Belgian presidency made this known by specifying that the package "is one of the largest approved by the EU" It will now be subjected to a written procedure and formally approved on 24 February. The package is in response to Russia's actions in Ukraine and its annexation of Crimea. The sanctions are expected to take effect from 1 February.
