Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS) is the most feared disease in children under 5 years of age. So far this year the number of HUS cases has decreased sharply.

The bad news is that even though cases went down, deaths went up. HUS is produced by the Escherichia coli bacteria, present in the fecal matter of animals and people. Its danger appears when the meat (especially minced meat) is not well cooked. It can also be present in raw vegetables, so good washing is key.
