Lindsay Gervois, 13, took her own life on May 12 in Vendin-le-Vieil, northern France. Her mother had been asking the authorities for help for months for the continuous insults her daughter suffered at school and on social networks.

The case has brought to the fore the failures of the authorities to tackle a problem that affects about one in ten students in the country. In Spain, more than half of the cases of suicide in adolescence is related to violence, among the multiple forms in which it occurs.
