Authors, editors and experts celebrate great advances in teenage romances in equality and inclusivity. But they warn about the resistance of certain abusive approaches, in a debate at the Bologna fair.

“Youth literature is deeply connected to its time. It can be a powerful x-ray of what we experience,” highlights Nando López, celebrated Spanish author of novels such as Éric's Version and Something More Than Sex. The books seem to advance along with reality: LGTBIQ+ plots and independent protagonists multiply, more fluid relationships and genders are included, harassment, abuse and violence are openly faced. The event is prohibited to minors under 18 years of age: many times they give opinions, give opinions about young people who stopped being young people a long time ago, say the authors of the young novels at the fair. The book fair is one of the largest in the sector, as a guest at the Telling Love conference in BologNA.
