Two abandoned bags, bomb scare in Piazza San Marco. The square was closed while waiting for the bomb squad (ANSA) A bag and a trolley abandoned on the walkways due to high water triggered the bomb alarm.
The police cordoned off the area between the bell tower and the entrance to the Basilica. The bags had been noticed shortly before in front of the Doge's Palace, left unattended by some people. Recalled by local police officers, the owners had moved them, and then abandoned them again.
