Turkish Airlines pilots failed to land their aircraft on the tarmac at the English airport. The strong winds from Storm Kathleen got the better of their efforts.

Passengers and crew will never see the Birmingham terminal, the plane having been diverted to Gatwick some 200 km away, in the suburbs of London. Several flights that day were disrupted by strong winds. In particular one from Toulouse, which ended up landing without incident. The Turkish Airlines Airbus A321neo was the only flight to be affected by the storm.
