Kïlauea volcano erupted on Wednesday, June 7 at 4:44 am on the Big Island of Hawaii. The images captured by the webcam of the US Volcano Monitoring Agency show lava flows as far as the eye can see.
Despite impressive plumes, Kilauea's eruptions are slow and low in explosive. They thus give local populations time to evacuate in case of worsening of the situation. Gases released into the air at Halema'uma'u Crater have created a potentially dangerous toxic cloud.
