The return of the "property tax on unbuilt real estate" is being quietly promoted by the government. The goal is to increase control over the pace of construction and prevent projects from waiting.

In 1999, on the eve of the abolition of the tax, the state collected property tax on land in the amount of NIS 1.12 billion. "Imposing a property tax now on the land is a serious mistake," says Haim Feiglin, CEO of Tzemach Hamerman.
