Slovakia is blessed with more than 1,300 sources of mineral water and hot springs. The country has built 26 thermal spas and has been crowned a spa state.
The first spa was established in Peštani in 1822. The most suitable place to recover is in an area called the "Spa Island" in the city of Piešťany, famous for six spa hotel complexes built around thermal springs. These springs contain natural minerals, such as magnesium, sodium and sulfur, which have been discovered to have medicinal properties.
