Lori and George Schappell died on April 7 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, at the age of 62. The cause of their death remains unknown.

The twins shared bones, vital blood vessels and 30% of their brains, including the frontal lobe and parietal lobe. They also became the first same-sex conjoined twins to identify as different genders after George, who was then named Dori, announced he was transgender in 2007. “My theory is: why fix what’s not broken? », declared George in a documentary dating from 1997. The two Siamese are survived by their father, six brothers and sisters, several nephews and nieces as well as many friends.. They managed to defy all the predictions of doctors according to which they could not live beyond thirty years. Lori and George never wanted to be apart from each other. Throughout their lives, they kept repeating that they had a “normal” life and tried to do as many things as possible individually, including taking a shower.
