The regulation is proposed in November 2022 by the EU Commission. It is aimed at encouraging carbon absorption activities both with industrial technologies and with natural methods as happens in agriculture and forestry.

The agreement covers different types of techniques, such as permanent carbon storage withindustrial technologies. It also covers storage in long-lasting products such as wood-based ones, and carbon farming in agriculture. The regulation is expected to be in place by the end of the year, with the aim of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
