80 years ago, during the Second World War, Saint-Maximin was 95% razed to the ground. At the height of summer, no less than 9,000 tons of shells fell on the town, which then had 1,200 inhabitants.

In 2024, the small town in the south of Oise commemorates the 80th anniversary of the bombardment of the town by the Allied armies, from March to August 1944. In the end, only a handful of houses remained.
