France still has 865 pedestrian lane crossings in stations. These facilities inherited from the past kill four people on average each year.

At the start of the year, two young women were mowed down by a train while using these pedestrian crossings installed on the tracks. The victims' families point out the inertia of the public authorities and the responsibility of SNCF Réseau. Since 1973, the authorities have recorded more than 350 fatal accidents, to which must be added those at level crossings (PN) used by pedestrians.
