"Ghost bikes" pay tribute to cyclists killed on the roads by motorists. This phenomenon, imported from the United States, tends to develop in France.

The first “ghost bike” was filed in Saint-Louis, Missouri, in October 2003. Since then, according to a count made in 2018 by an American association of cyclists called “GhostBikes.org”, there have been 630 ghost bikes erected in 210 locations around the world.. Many have been withdrawn and many collectives are struggling to keep their accounts up to date.
