Marseille's creeks are loaded with dangerous substances such as lead and arsenic. The State and local authorities have planned to remove them, for around fifteen million euros.

Pollution appeared in the 19th century in these areas of Marseille where industries were set up. In 2011, the cost of the initial project was estimated at three million euros, 15 years later, the bill has skyrocketed, reaching 14 million euros - the Bouches-du-Rhône prefecture.
