But the author does not demonstrate any fatalistic theory. He does not name the name of the dictator once. It's barely mentioned on the back cover. We could therefore forget it, say to ourselves that what we are reading is simply the story of the life of a miserable bigot. But this is the whole art of the novelist, to distil reality into fiction.
