Some Republicans are leaving their positions in the House of Representatives early. They are frustrated by the dysfunctional legislative process.

Five of the 21 retiring Republicans will have resigned before the end of the legislative session. Four committee chairs are leaving, with Republicans particularly shocked by the announced resignations of Cathy McMorris Rodgers (Washington) and Gallagher. Eight lawmakers are resigning from the coveted Energy and Commerce Committee, and eight subcommittee chairs are also leaving. Four former members from a different era of Republican leadership have also quit: former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, his deputy Patrick T. McHenry, former vice chairman Drew Ferguson and McMorristos Rodgers. Former Congressman Ken Buck (R-Colorado) resigned after complaining about how dubious his party had become. “This is a dysfunctional place and I make no observation that others have not made,” Buck said. ‘Without a Republican majority, we have no chance of getting this done,’ said Speaker Mike Johnson (Louisiana) “We must be ready to govern and save the country."
