Amateur investors follow the precepts of John Bogle, founder of The Vanguard Group. Bogleheads devote a real cult to the businessman who died in 2019.

“Why bet everything on the performance of a few companies when you can own a fraction of all the companies listed on the market?” said Bogle in an interview with The New York Times. The Boglecenter is an association created by financial aficionados to defend Bogle's theories at all costs. The meeting is the annual highlight of the Bogle Center's annual conference. It takes place in Rockville, a small town in Maryland 30 minutes from Washington DC, in October 2023. The conference is organized by the B Neville Center, a non-profit organization based in Washington, DC, that promotes the use of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) as a way to invest in the stock market. It is the first of its kind in the U.S., and the second in the world.
