Dino Scala, nicknamed the “Sambre rapist”, was sentenced in 2022 to 20 years of criminal imprisonment, for a series of 54 rapes. Justice is studying two new reports that it could possibly join to the ongoing judicial investigation.

He is still the subject of a judicial investigation opened in March by the Valenciennes public prosecutor's office, for another series of rapes, attempted rapes and sexual assaults perpetrated between 1988 and 2009. These acts were committed near his home, around the Sambre river, in France but also in Belgium. The 63-year-old initially appealed his conviction, before dropping it in October. His lawyer Margaux Mathieu indicated not not having been informed of these two new report. The two reports will be studied before “a possible connection with judicial information,” says prosecutor Christelle Dumont. The investigation is still ongoing, says the prosecutor’s office, and no arrests have yet been made, it adds. The case against Dino Scala is still pending.
