In 2015, Bonnelles was the first commune in France to welcome Syrian and Iraqi migrants. Nine years later, the support has continued to grow.

The commune is now home to more than 2,000 asylum seekers. The town is also home to the Orantes monastery, which was transformed into an emergency accommodation center for asylum seekers (Huda) It was in the fall of 2015, in the middle of the migration crisis, that the commune opened its doors to refugees.
