Remains of six French soldiers, who fell during the Battle of Diên Bien Phu, will be returned to their homeland, 70 years later. They were discovered between 1998 and 2022, in private gardens.

Possible identification of the bodies will also take time. “Today we don’t know who they are, but we know what they did, what they endured. They will not be forgotten,” says Thierry Laurent, chief of staff of Patricia Mirallès, Secretary of State for Veterans Affairs. The remains will be repatriated to France from May 3 to 8, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Indochina War, her office announces. A-ille plaque was possibly found on one of the remains, possibly with a French surname, possibly on a plaque in a museum in the city of Aix-en-Provence, in the south of the country. It will then be necessary to “wash” the remains and study them for several days before obtaining results and a report.
