On June 17, 1994, the chase between the ex-footballer and the police captivated some 95 million Americans. Orenthal James Simpson was nevertheless found civilly responsible for the deaths of his ex-wife and Ron Goldman.

The athlete has always protested his innocence and denied having tried to escape his summons to the police station on the day of the famous chase.
