From today, the rules change, the speaking time of candidates in the European elections is counted and all will be subject to the principle of fairness set by Arcom. Given their poor performance in the last elections - one of the criteria set by the media regulator - both the left and right lists will see their presence on stage and at the microphone reduced.

“We will have to give priority to the candidate and prevent others from eating up his speaking time,” says François-Xavier Bellamy, the head of the Les Républicains (LR) list, between 6.5% and 8% in the polls. The party has a number of local elected officials: “If there is a flood somewhere and…”, whispers a tenor of the party. The rules change on Monday, with the first round of voting taking place on May 22 and the second on May 23. The winner will be announced on May 24. The third round will be held on May 26 and 27.
