The prominent French sociologist of socialist origin has died at the age of 97. He visited the country on numerous occasions, including at the height of the 2002 crisis, to advise Duhalde on governance.

The impact of May 68, the Latin American revolutionary movements and the military dictatorships of this continent always had him as an attentive and close observer. With Gino Germani he wrote South America: a new proletariat; and is the author of fundamental books such as The Postindustrial Society.
