'Shameless': China's response to Taiwan earthquake enrages Taipei. Taiwan's Foreign Ministry said it "strongly condemns China's shameless exploitation of the Taiwan earthquake to carry out cognitive operations at the international level" China views democratically ruled Taiwan as a breakaway province and wants to annex the island state to the mainland by force if necessary.
China regularly sends fighter jets and warships near the island and has observation balloons fly over Taiwan. USA does not officially recognize Taiwan but supports the country with weapons.
